Before your first call

What to expect on your first Quietloom session

A Quietloom call is a short, friendly video session — one learner, one coach, and (if you want) a family member listening in. This page walks through what to have ready, how to check your sound and picture, and what will happen during the call.

If your hands shake on video calls — that’s fine.

There’s nothing to pass, nothing to be tested on. We move at your pace, and you can stop the call whenever you want.

01

What to bring

Set yourself up somewhere quiet and comfortable. Here’s what to have within reach before the call starts.

  • Your phone or laptop, charged.
  • A charger, just in case.
  • Your reading glasses, if you use them for the screen.
  • The one thing you want to figure out — write it down so you don’t have to remember it.
  • Your caregiver or a family member, if you’d like them on the call.

02

Test your audio and camera

A few minutes of checking now will save you fumbling on the call. None of this asks the page for permission — it’s all things you can do with apps you already have.

  • Open the Camera app on your phone and tap record. Talk for a few seconds, then play it back — you should hear yourself clearly.
  • If the sound is quiet, turn up the volume with the buttons on the side of your phone.
  • If you can’t hear anything, plug in headphones or try the speakerphone button.
  • Switch to selfie mode and check the picture is comfortable — most people like it best about an arm’s length away, with a lamp or window lighting your face.

03

What to expect

The first call is short and unhurried. There’s no script and no test — just a conversation about the one thing you want to learn.

  • Your coach arrives a few minutes early. You’ll see their face and hear them say hello.
  • There’s no timer and no test — you talk, they listen.
  • The coach will write a short recap and email it to you and your caregiver when the call ends.
  • You can stop the call at any moment by closing the window.
